Q Adolescent Literature 2221 003 Dear Class, Happy Spring! First, I want to say that I REALLY messed up the dates. We will have our proficiency exam on THURSDAY, APRIL 8, 2021. And we will meet for class synchronously, as usual, this Tuesday, March 23, 2021. I don’t know about you but I keep up with the news from sources I view to be reliable. Do you? I hope that you consider where you get your news from on social media. That said, our fictional readings are paralleling the major events in the news. I am following the trial of George Floyd’s killer (the Floyd family setting with the city for a record 27 million dollars before the trial even began). And now we learn of these terrible murders in Atlanta (our next book is a graphic novel, American Born Chinese). Please start thinking about these things as it might help you determine how you might want to design your end of the semester project of a padlet of your own. In the meantime, please feel free to engage your letter partners in a discussion on any responses for The Hate U Give. It’s ok to express yourselves. Be raw. Be hopeful. Be angry. Be a problem solver. Be a literary critic. Talk about the songs. Talk about the characters. Be sure to address the person to whom you are writing by name, not “Dear Person 2.” I mean how is that human? I think you know the procedure for the letters. Keep reading. Best, Prof Robins Please note there are some changes. Here is the list of partners: Person 1 Person 2 Person 3 Edina Sterline Giovanni Vanessa Azarai Amritjot Javont Alexa Dulce Johanna Jonathan Christopher Shadab Daniel Colin Jaylen Sohab Ryan Sajid David Victor

The text assigned to us in this academic session is a wonderful interpretation of race relations in America. Race has always been a point of conflict across the country due to its horrific past of slavery and discrimination. The dystopian imagery set in reality resonates within the masses, as we have come to witness similar attacks on minorities in modern times. Since the recent shooting against Asians in Atlanta, we have seen that racial prejudices easily seep into the mainstream culture without much backlash in the process of perforation. The title of the text, The Hate U Give, refers to a popular lyric from Tupac Shakur, who himself was a victim of gang wars and racial injustice.
