Q Welcome to Adolescent Literature 2221 003 Dear Class, I hope this letter finds everyone well and exercising caution when going out because it is very icy. Of course, double mask – that should go without saying. In this week’s letter, in no fewer than three paragraphs, I would like for you to discuss any of the following aspect of the two Sherman Alexie short stories – the Jimi Hendrix story and Cry Cry Cry. I know we didn’t get a chance to talk about Cry Cry Cry but I still want you to read it. For those of you who prefer a prompt, consider talking about father/son relationships, the inner conflict of the narrators, or you can connect the narrators to what you know about Charlie. Some notes for the upcoming weeks: ? We will not meet on Tuesday 2/23 because you will be assigned to take your fifth week proficiency exam. This is the same exact format as the first day exam. ? Be sure to use what we have learned: o Thesis statements o Lifting of text o Elaboration o Good introductory and concluding paragraphs ? On 3/9 a librarian will visit with our class so that we can learn best practices for researching peer reviewed articles for essay #2. I think you know the procedure for the letters. Best, Prof Robins Please note there are some changes. The short stories by Sherman Alexie have a deep-seated sadness which lets us sympathize with the characters on an ethereal level, beyond the concepts of race, social stature, and gender. The stories are unfamiliar concepts of the Native American lifestyle and the problems they face due to the institutionalized discrimination and social prejudice in the hands of the society they live in. I would love to talk to you about the role of race and their relationships that the story's characters have with one another.
