Introduction: Our emotional self is like a garden: while it can be skillfully guided, misfortunes are inevitable. Both are prey to environmental difficulties but responsive to attention and care. Although traumatic experiences and genetic predisposition contribute to the development of debilitative emotions, debilitative feelings can be managed by self-soothing and improving self-talk, and facilitative emotions can be amplified. Body: Main Point A (Ananda and Damian): -Origins of debilitative emotions When understanding the origins of debilitative emotions, such as traumatic experiences, and genetic predisposition, we must first realize the signs given to us by our bodies. Some examples are emotional, physical, somatization (ex: self-diagnosed headaches from stress), hyperarousal, triggers (flashbacks), and many others. The next step would be to find the origins of this trauma. To do so, we need to evaluate and recognize how we are feeling, accept the emotions or triggers at the moment, and finally investigate internal experiences to find the origins of debilitative emotions.
