Q Find on YouTube episodes of the BBC TV series, “BBC Farm Series - Wartime Farm”. Watch any episode (episodes are 60 minutes) and write a short (250-500 words – that’s 1 page double-spaced) essay telling me what you learned about farming in each era, and how what you watched fits into your reading for this class. For most of history, most people were not involved in making history: they were occupied by raising food. In a way, these shows are the real history as it was for most people, most of the time

Watching the first episode of wartime farm was nothing short of exciting. It is frightening when we are taking a peek at the past and watching the transition from old technology to new technology while WW2 was at its early stages. Watching and listening to the players in the re-enactments made it more haunting, especially since they made an effort only to use materials and act as they did back in those days. Yet the one thing that you never expect is that the simple farmers, especially in this war, were far from simple. They were very involved in defending their country and real war heroes in every aspect of their lives. When the typical farmer began switching over from old technology to new technology, I never thought that the "Majority of the farms were not on the grid," as the video states. Still, there was a solution "there was an alternative: a portable petrol power generator."
