Extra Credit (Fear Factor)

Q The FEAR Factor As a way to earn extra points, you can explore how “fear” influenced the motivations and actions of 2 characters in each of the dystopian novels we read this semester. You need to explore BOTH explicit and implicit fear (subtle and overt fear). However, focusing your efforts on situations and/or activities caused by tacit (implicit) fear vs overt fear will yield greater points. You can earn up to 50 additional points in this paper depending upon the depth of the analysis. You need to use quotes and/or summaries of passages in the texts to support your positions. Also, when citing sources within the text, you should use MLA in-text format—as we have done all semester. This assignment does not have to be written as a paper with a narrative, but can be formatted as series of independent paragraghs, as follows: ( A narrative is acceptable, but not required.) The fear factors of characters and its role in their motivation for actions The word fear has a heavy burden attached to it, as it is mostly associated with negativity, the pressure of failing, and uncertainty that makes it more vulnerable. Despite being related to negativity, fear has hope hidden deep within it. If one can overcome come fear and take one courageous step to move beyond it, fear can be defeated, and the hidden hope can be won. The stories that we have read and the characters that became the points of connection between us and the stories have often found to have explicit and implicit fear that have changed their lives or given them the motivation to act. Their lives would not have the same, perhaps, if the fear factor did not work to influence their life and the decisions they made.
