Though sexual education is critical, many students have little to no awareness about contraceptives and procedures for safe sexual intercourse or have a poor grasp of them. To protect themselves from sexually transmitted infections, schools have taught students to wait until they are married. Since they are financed to teach these initiatives, abstinence-only courses have grown popular in public schools. These campaigns have the laudable goal of persuading young people to wait until marriage before having sex, but abstinence-only programs fail to achieve this goal and are harmed by the prejudiced attitude they promote.
