Throughout the centuries, developed cultures have placed a high importance on history, philosophy, music, art, literature, etc. They knew that in order to be a good citizen, a string background in and appreciation of those fields created wiser citizens and better leaders. Currently in America, the humanities have struggled to maintain an important role in higher education and in society. The readings for this week will give you little background as we build a foundation for the rest of the semester. Initial Post Instructions After reading the articles noted in this activity, address the following: What did you find most interesting about the history and development of the humanities as a discipline? As a graduate student, how do these articles help you think about the importance of studying the humanities? Remember to use citations as needed to support your points.
