Marriages in India are definitely more a formal thing than what most Americans would agree with or believe in. For most families, finding a suitable husband or wife seemed like an elaborate task with too many parameters to fill in. For marriages, love between the two people getting married was the last thing that mattered. Family reputation, modesty of the prospective candidate, skin color, and even body size mattered more than compatibility and love.
