The ethical theory that I find myself using the most in my own life is utilitarianism. According to the text, “utilitarianism claims that a morally right action is one that produces more good or fewer bad consequences for everyone than any other action that could be performed in its place” (Velasquez, 501). Utilitarianism is a consequentialist theory. And it “judges the morality of an action by how good or bad its consequences are” (Velasquez, 497). More than that, utilitarianism does not make us act in a way that involves our ego, which ethically is when we do something with self-interest in mind (Velasquez, 499).
