Schenck v. United States is a case in which Schenck was held guilty for violating the Espionage Act passed in 1917. Schenck distributed almost 20,000 pamphlets to the citizens of the United States against the military draft that the government passed for the First World War which stated men required to fight for the country. Schenck oppose the war and particularly the draft because according to him, the draft was a call for people to get into slavery which should be not allowed in a free country. This view about slavery was not a widespread view.
