Q 1. Who are the major figures in the competition to decorate the doors of the Florence Baptistery, and what do the results of the competition tell us about art in the 15th century in general and Florence in particular?
The competition to design the bronze doors of the Florence Baptistery (also known as the Baptistery of San Giovanni) drew proposals from several Italian artists. However, the two commissions that have survived today are those of Filippo Brunelleschi (1377–1446) and Lorenzo Ghiberti (1378–1455).
