Ch 35 Employment Discrimination discussion
Q At the beginning of the chapter, a distinction is made between disparate treatment discrimination and disparate impact discimination. Can you explain the difference giving examples?
Disparate treatment discrimination implies that there has been a different treatment of an employee in the same circumstances. This means that when all the employees (except the discriminated employee) had been treated equally in a specific circumstance, the discriminated employee had been treated in a completely different manner. One example of disparate treatment discrimination could be when there is a female employee being treated in such a way that she is never expected to do overtime or earn overtime pay. Therefore, she is just expected to meet her targets and not take any extra responsibilities or initiatives for contributing towards her organization.
