Smells like nostalgia: Why do scents bring back memories?
Humans and their relation to nostalgia and memories are quite unique, and this is what the article discusses in detail, as Holohan takes the readers on a journey back to long-gone memories. The human brain is capable of evoking nostalgia as the memories of the past come searching the mind and brings with it a flurry of memories. This is strongly related to smells, as different smells remind one of the different memories. When someone smells something, the smell travels through the olfactory bulb and reaches the emotional center in the brain, which further is connected to the amygdala, all of which that incites the emotions in the brain and activates the past memories hidden in the brain.
