The article which is sought to be elucidated this week appeared in the New York Times, named, “Violence in India Threatens its Global Ambitions”, by Maria Abi-Habib. She raises a pertinent question and it pertains to the Indian claim of being a rising global power, which she believes is increasingly under threat as the “government takes an illiberal turn to Hindu nationalism” (Abi-Habib, 2020). As one of the largest democracies in the world has been reduced to a hunting ground for politicians and activists who do not subscribe to the fundamental agenda of Hindu nationalism, as the independence of the media seems to be snatched and the business executives seem to be intimated and refuse to speak on the appalling condition of the economy; the democratic future of the country is certainly under massive threat.
