Activity 3.3 Jesus in the Movies

Q [Rent and/or] watch Jesus (or, if you choose: Jesus of Nazareth or The Gospel of John). Jesus is available at the online link at: http://www.jesusfilm.org/languages/index.html. Identify which one you watched. In the first paragraph, describe one scene that you found difficult to watch. How does it relate to the account you read from Matthew, Mark, or Luke and John? In the second paragraph, describe one scene that you saw in a new way, or that you found inspirational. What details came to life that brought the new insight? In the third paragraph, describe the one scene that you found to be the most important part of Jesus’ life and/or ministry. Describe your personal reaction to watching the words of the Bible come to life. In the fourth paragraph, connect the third part of Yancey (word pictures) with something you saw in the movie (a visible picture). In these settings, what does Christianity teach about the extent of God’s love for the world?

I watched the movie Jesus. One scene in the movie which I found difficult to watch would be the scene of suffering of Jesus when Jesus is beaten up and is lashed after the scene when Jesus is given lashes Jesus is handed over by Pontius Pilates to the high priests and the his people for making the judgment on Jesus. I think that the scene made me remember more of Matthew and less of John because of the way the trial and suffering of Christ has been described in Matthew. The scene is perfectly blended and every aspect of the scene is related directly to Matthew more than John.
