Completing the cognition labs added value to both my personal and professional life. Understanding how individuals perceive the world is a must when conducting therapy. The cognition labs allowed me to realize how our perceptions can be unknowingly skewed. Having this knowledge will make me a more effective therapist. Furthermore, I learned much about myself personally. I have a solid ability to memorize, process, and recall things. For instance, with the Lexical Decision Lab, participants were expected to answer more quickly with words associated with one another versus those not. This was not the case for me due to my not just memorizing the information but also processing it.
