Equifax is one of the three largest credit reporting companies and holds the financial information for more than 800 million consumers worldwide and more than 88 million businesses worldwide. Although the volume of sensitive data that Equifax has amassed over the years drew concern from members of congress, Equifax assured that they were diligently protecting all the information on their servers from attack. Despite this, Equifax experienced a major data breach in 2017 that led to a multi-state investigation to figure out who was responsible.
