Pure alcohol has the property to coagulate the protein of the microbes which are in contact. For example, if the pure alcohol is poured over any microorganism. The mechanism of action of alcohol is based on its ability to denature the protein of bacterial cell component. Alcohol in its higher concentration is called ideal alcohol or pure alcohol and it is less effective against bacteria or any microbes. The reason for it is that the proteins are not able to denature well in the absence of water, as it require aqueous medium to work. (Gerald McDonnell, 2019)The coagulated protein cannot enter the cell wall of the microbes due to lack of water. In this way, microbial cell would become inactive but it will not die.
