Q Completing the Outline- There are two portions of our outline which have yet to be completed-- the Introduction and Conclusion. After having read the text and viewed the videos in this unit, you now ought to be prepared to develop these last two sections for your speech. Please don't rush through the development of these two portions though. Introductions and Conclusions are essential. They could "make" or "break" your whole speech. As mentioned earlier, the Theory of Primacy and Recency says audiences remember opening sections and closing remarks more than any other aspects of a presentation. So make sure you incorporate all that is necessary to entice your audience to listen, engage them with meaningful and credible material, and then clearly wrap it all up with an enduring message and call to action. Once you've completed that, go ahead and copy and paste all previous portions of your outline onto this same form. Review your entire outline one more time paying particular attention to the language you used in each section. Did you "write for the ear and not for the eye"? Remember we're developing an outline which is meant to be heard and not seen. (Your audience will not be reading your outline.) So review whether or not your speech sounds conversational. Does it sound like you are carrying on a "dialogue" with your audience? Your sentences should not be long and complex, but short and to the point. (Remember you can always review Chapter 13 The Important of Language.) Finally upload your entire outline to the Assignment Link. Assessment: There is no rubric for this assignment.
