Caste system is a very prominent social structure in India. If it is asked what a caste system is, a simple answer would be caste is a sub- division that is based on cultural and traditional factors of a society and can be defined as hereditary and ranked endogamous groups that had been created based on an individual’s occupation. A caste also signifies the social status of a family or an individual. A typical ‘Caste’ has found its root in ancient India and is prevalent in India, Nepal, Pakistan and other borderline countries of India. It is somewhat similar (but not identical) to the ‘Class’ concept of the West and helps to form a social hierarchy.
